Adobe Premiere Pro is the non-linear video editor (NLE) behind a large share of broadcast TV, streaming originals, YouTube channels and indie features. Its timeline accepts almost any source format — from a phone-shot vertical clip to 8K ProRes RAW — on the same sequence, and renders out anything from a 15-second TikTok to a 2-hour theatrical master. Codec and camera support
Premiere Pro reads H.264, H.265/HEVC, ProRes (decode and encode on Windows), DNxHD/DNxHR, AVC-Intra, XAVC/XAVC-S/XAVC-HS, RED R3D, ARRI ARRIRAW, Blackmagic RAW, Canon Cinema RAW Light and Sony VENICE V-RAW. The 2023+ releases add hardware decoding for 10-bit 4:2:2 HEVC on Intel Arc and recent NVIDIA / AMD GPUs — the same footage that stuttered on an older build often plays back smoothly on Premiere Pro 2024 simply because of the new decoder paths.

Choosing a version for your project
For collaborative team projects on Productions, choose Premiere Pro 2023 or newer. For solo edits with the widest plug-in compatibility (Red Giant, Boris FX, FilmConvert), Premiere Pro 2022 remains a popular sweet spot. Legacy CS6 and CC 2017–2018 builds are still useful for reopening old projects archived before the Productions panel existed.
